The SOM Business Writing/Business Communication Programs are funded by the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Writing Program as well as by the School of Management, and have been further developed with the assistance of a 1993 University Faculty Grant to the Writing Program Director, Linda LaDuc; by funding received from a US Department of Education grant (to Marta Calas, who allocated amounts for Writing Program initiatives in response to Writing Program proposals (1994); and by a Faculty Stipend awarded to the Director to develop distance learning technology to deliver instruction to Honors students (Summer 1996).
The UMass Faculty Senate has voted to name our courses "Management Communications" and to renumber SOM 491(A/B) SOM 310(A/B). A satisfactory completion of SOM 491(A/B) meets the requirements of SOM 310(A/B).
