Credits which may be applied toward the bill loans

  1. William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) will not credit bills until Promissory Notes are signed and returned to the Financial Aid Office.
    1. If a student is chosen for verification, all verification documents must also be returned. First time borrowers must also return entrance interview.
    2. Financial Aid Award letters list gross loan amounts. The net loan amounts will be lessened by a 1.5% origination fee. Unsubsidized loans are similarly calculated.

    Subsidized Loan Amounts

    Class of 2007

    $1,312.50 - 1.5% = $1,273.00

    Class of 2006

    $1,750.00 - 1.5% = $1,698.00

    Class of 2004/2005

    $2,750.00 - 1.5% = $2,668.00

Unsubsidized loan amounts are similarly calculated.

     2. Parent Plus Loans may be deducted from the bill but only if a signed Promissory Note has been returned to the Financial Aid Office. Parent Plus Loans are also subject to a 4% origination fee.

Outside Scholarships

Outside scholarships may be deducted from the bill as long as a copy of the scholarship letter is included with the bill. Be sure that the scholarship is being applied to the same semester that is shown on the bill. Outside scholarships may affect financial aid amounts depending on your need. Questions should be referred to the Financial Aid Office at 545-0801.

Non-University Scholarship Agencies

To deduct financial assistance expected from any source outside of the University (not appearing on the bill), you must provide a copy of payment authorization from the funding source. Authorization must include:

  • Dollar value of assistance.
  • Method or schedule of payment.
  • Full name and address of funding source.

Credits which may not be deducted from the bill

  • Teri/MA Plan Loans These loans may not be deducted from the bill until the Financial Aid Office receives approval from the bank. Once approved it will appear as an estimated loan.
  • Massachusetts State Scholarships — If an assumed General Scholarship does not appear as a credit on the bill, you may not deduct any amount from the bill.
  • Work-Study Awards — These may not be deducted from the bill.
  • Financial Aid Appeals — These appeals do not guarantee that an additional award will be given and may not be used to justify paying less than the total due on the bill.
