...although trying to take a sample of frozen ground is not easy.

But the result is rewarding indeed...

...and it's usually sealed in a jar with nitrogen gas in it.

...you got it! Laboratory...(for people who don't know) it's a place with a lot of glassware, expensive electronics and caffeinated scientists.

and now it is time for sulfate reducing bacteria to do what they suppose to do...live and multiply.
