Meaning “NOW” in English is the name selected for this Spanish speaking student organization established in 1972 as a claim for recognition for the growing presence of Latino students on campus. This organization paved the way for many other organizations, programs and services for Latino undergraduate students at the University.

Casa Dominicana

This group was established in 1994 to promote the cultural heritage of a growing Dominican undergraduate population on campus. The English translation is “Dominican House” and Cayena is the name of their merengue dance group. Cayena is the national flower and merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic.

Boricuas Unidos

Boricua derives from Boriken the name given to the island of Puerto Rico by the Native Indians-the Tainos. “Boricuas United” formed in 1995 to educate the UMass community about the varied political and cultural issues affecting Puerto Rican communities on campus and Puerto Ricans in the motherland as well.
