Traffic Stops
In Massachusetts, it's the law that cars must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. Even if there happen to be 350 of those pedestrians crossing at the same time. As hard as it is to believe, though, some people just don't notice that there is a band coming, and there needs to be a crossing guard there for the safety of everyone involved. Being the kind souls that we are, the tubas voluntarily took on the role of crossing guards for the band.
As the band comes to a street crossing, the tuba tail runs ahead, deftly splits in two, and lets everyone on the road know that the UMass Marching Band is about to cross, and we'll have no interference.
STOP! Or my tuba will shoot.
