Grinnell

After having to leave Chapel a few years ago, the band needed a new place to stay. Dorm rooms are small enough without having to bring your sousaphone back for the night, and explaining to your RA why you can't open your door for the fire drill.

So, the band moved to Grinnell Arena. Over here, the tubas were given their own room, complete with racks to store all of the sousaphones. And for a long time, we even had our very own non-functional copy machine.

Grinnell is where the band as a whole meets to depart for road trips, and to have lunch before the march to the stadium on gameday. The tubas, however, have a much deeper connection with the place we now call home. Every day, 20 minutes before rehearsal, we can be found gathering around to collect our horns and head down to the field for the day. After practice, there is the hike back up so put the babys back to bed until tomorrow

Grinnell is a haven for the tubas. Our horns have a home, and we have a safe place to run and hide with our lunch, and to keep our things so we don't have to carry quite so much with us all the time.

While it will never hold the same emotional ties as Chapel, today's UMMB Tubas proudly call Grinnell their home.

As much as we love Grinnell, we are anxiously waiting for the new UMMB band building to be completed. More information available at www.ummbalumni.org
