The UMMB is Going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

On November 28, 2013, it might be the year to get up early again and watch the dozens of balloon floats and marching bands go through New York City. Why, you ask? Under the direction of Director, Timothy Todd Anderson and Associate Director, Thomas P. Hannum, the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band will be traveling to New York City to march in the Macy’s Parade among one of the several marching bands. On April 3rd, 2012 Wesley Whatley, Creative Director of the parade, came to the George N. Parks Minuteman Marching Band Building to give the UMMB the surprising news. This is a major honor for the band. More than 3.5 million people will witness this phenomenon in person and over 50 million will witness it from the comfort of their own home. Be a part of that large number, either in New York or in front of your television. The UMMB has traveled many times to make public appearances including: both of President Ronald Reagan’s Inaugurations, and President George W. Bush’s first presidential Inauguration including five appearances at the Bands of America Grand National Championships, but this is the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance for the UMMB. We hope you watch a new piece of UMMB History being made in 2013!
