After seeing one performance of the Minuteman Marching Band, it is easy to see why Thom Hannum is recognized worldwide as a leader in marching percussion. The UMass Marching Percussion Section and Front Percussion Ensemble are without equal in this region. Mr. Hannum's legendary success is not limited to the Minuteman Band.

Receiving his bachelor's degree in music from West Chester University and a master's from this University, Mr. Hannum's talent and dedication have earned him a great deal of respect in the field of music education.

Thom Hannum is regarded as one of the nation's foremost percussion clinicians having presented numerous seminars and workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Southeast Asia. A Drum Corps International Hall of Famer, Hannum is best known for his work with the DCI World Champion Cadets of Bergen County and Star of Indiana. Thom is currently the percussion arranger for the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps and Star of Indiana's new Brass Theater production entitled "BLAST".

Mr. Hannum is a product consultant and clinician for the Avedis Zildjian Cymbal Company, Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, and the Pearl Corporation. Thom serves on the Musicians Advisory Board for J. D'Addario & Company, Inc. where he is involved in the development and design of drum heads for marching percussion. He is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and the President of the Massachusetts PAS Chapter.

An accomplished author, Mr. Hannum has published a textbook and workbook titled Championship Concepts for Marching Percussion. His instructional video, Fundamental Techniques for Marching Percussion, demonstrates the concepts outlined in the books.

Every summer, Mr. Hannum hosts his Mobile Percussion Seminar in locations across the country. Mr. Hannum has also worked at events such as the Massachusetts Instrumental Conductors Association’s High School Marching Band Festival and Bowl Games of America Festivals at the Nokia Sugar Bowl.
