Biography

Prof. Kitagawa retired in 2002. He first taught Japanese and Japanese linguistics at UMass Amherst as Assistant Professor in 1972 - 1976, and helped to establish degree and certificate programs in Japanese, Chinese, and Asian Studies. After having taught Japanese and linguistics at the Univ. of Arizona in 1976 - 1989, he returned to UMass Amherst in 1989 to continue his work at his beloved campus.
