Amanda Seaman received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Her book Bodies of Evidence on Japanese women's detective fiction was published in 2004 along with many other articles on detective fiction and popular literature. Her second book is on the representations of pregnancy and childbirth in contemporary literature. Her research and teaching interests include Japanese popular culture, women's literature, modern and postwar Japanese literature and Tokyo through literature and film.
