Assistant Professor Gülru Çakmak has been awarded a Five College Blended Learning Initiative grant for 2016-17 supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She will use this award to create a digital exhibition platform in conjunction with the undergraduate seminar Modernizing Sculpture from Canova to Duchamp to be offered in Fall 2016. The digital exhibition will showcase student research projects on 18th- to early 20th-century sculpture in the Five Colleges Museums Collections. The project aims to deepen the students’ learning, inducing them to practice different kinds of thinking, bringing their own original solutions to the question of how to translate real-life embodied experiences of sculptural objects to digital space. As a first step in this process, she participated in the Blended Learning Summer Institute organized by the Five College Blended Learning Initiative in May 2016. She will be collaborating with UMass IT to develop the resources for this project through the summer.
