Tour a Historic House Museum
The Skinner Museum at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum boasts an important and “curious” collection of minerals and fossils, early lighting, rare books and documents, furniture, maritime objects, and many others, all assembled by Joseph Allen Skinner (1862-1946). It is a fabulous example of a historic house museum facing many of the challenges that will be raised at the Active History Symposium. Dr. Aaron F. Miller, Associate Curator of Visual and Material Culture at Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, will give a tour and lecture that highlights the significance and addresses the challenges of this local institution. Sister event to Actively Historic: The House Museum in the 21st Century.
