LOOK
As human beings, it is natural to look to others for approval and validation of our self-image. Our culture is based on the perfect ideal, and we often find ourselves looking for a self-image that is nothing but a fantasy. Our culture is concerned primarily with acceptance and popularity. Because it has permeated every level of our culture, it is inevitable that our mindset of what is right and what is wrong with our self-image is determined by the mainstream media. This film explores appropriated footage in an attempt to answer the burning question, “What is popularity?” Duration: 3 minutes, 44 seconds |

SEMIOLOGY
| The study of semiology focuses on how language, symbols and signs are used to communicate meaning in a culture. As an art student, I find myself slightly more observant of details and situations than most people. Occasionally I find that signs, while they try to communicate meaning, contradict themselves and what they symbolize. This film, entitled Semiology, is an in-depth study of one such sign found in our culture, and how it is used to communicate meaning. Decide for yourself if it is successful.
