Mural Project
Ceramic Wall Pieces

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My latest works are wall-oriented niche or shelf-like forms that contain/hold/showcase vessels or vegetation forms. Each piece has its own mood, expression and drama created by a combination of color, shape and texture. The newest pieces contain sets of vessels which explore the way similar shapes can be individualized through different decorative techniques as well as different references to ceramic cultural traditions.

Current Watercolor Series: Chinoiserie

This body of watercolors drew its initial inspiration from the innocuous Willow Ware Pattern , the most popular and ubiquitous of all ceramic dinnerware patterns. The issues that are focused on in this series are color, formal design, personal references and an exploration of oriental decorative motifs found in Chinese porcelain in a two dimensional format. This series has a great interest to me as a ceramic artist who has always admired Chinese ceramics, but has never appropriated any of its richness or traditions in my ceramic work.
