Juana Valdés' multi-disciplinary practice combines printmaking, photography, sculpture, performance, and ceramic. Valdes' artwork examines the post-colonial history of the Americas and the current representation of Latinos, Caribbean citizens, Blacks or what constitute "Other" in mainstream America.

We Grow Accustomed to the Dark is an exhibition which investigates the role of identity in the current political climate by probing the connection between poetry and visual art. 11 visual artists and 4 poets come together as part of the 6th Annual Amherst Poetry Festival and draw on deeply rooted personal experiences to address the complexities of identity politics, class, gender, education, and (de)industrialization.
