UMass Architecture had a strong showing at the Western Mass AIA (WMAIA)’s biannual design awards ceremony in December.
Assistant Professor Rob Williams received an Honor Award (with truth box Architects) for the Redevelopment of the Louttit Laundry Site: Urban Greens Co-op + The Upton Residences (see image at right).
Five Colleges Associate Professor Naomi Darling was recognized with a merit award for her Takahashi-Harb Loft and Library (see image at left). Darling also received a citation award for her temporary installation, Solar Time.
Every two years, WMAIA bestows Honorary Membership upon a person or persons outside the profession of architecture. This year the honor was granted to Professor Joseph Krupczynski for his accomplishments as Director of Civic Engagement & Service-Learning at UMass.
WMAIA and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), with support from Pella, awarded two $1000 scholarships to M.Arch. students Micaela Goodrich and Brenden Baitch for their design excellence, clarity of presentation, and community and/or university engagement.
