Assoc. Professor Caryn Brause, and students Victoria Capaldo and Abigail Fowler (both BS Arch '20) hosted Professor D. Venkataraman and masters students from the Department of Chemistry for a pin up to give them feedback on their journal article graphics. Scientific journals are increasingly asking for graphics to include with the article abstract and in the table of contents. The graphic needs to capture the reader's attention and, in conjunction with the manuscript title, is intended to give the reader a quick visual impression of the essence of the manuscript without providing specific results. This exchange grew out of Caryn's role on the steering committee of the Office of Research and Engagement's VIZ initiative which aims to increase awareness of visual communications concepts, help hone skills, and share resources to improve how we present our ideas and findings to the world. The Chemistry students really appreciated the feedback!
