Dr. Clouston teaches structural timber design and material mechanics for architects and construction technologists. Her research focuses on the structural behavior of wood/nonwood composite structures; topics include development of wood-concrete composite systems and innovative timber connections as well as finite-element modeling of wood composites.

Dr. Clouston is a registered professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. She also serves as Membership Chair and Section Correspondant of the Forest Products Society (Northeast Region) and is representative of the NE Region for the National Planning Committee of the National Association of Professional Forestry Schools and Colleges
