Master of Science (M.S.) Design
Admissions

The Master of Science in Design is a program emphasizing environmental design. The program provides graduates with a strong background in art, design, and related fields with the opportunity to pursue research, specialized development and interdisciplinary work.

The core curriculum includes work in design studios, research methods, design theory, and practice.

Students interested in the UMass Amherst/Hancock Shaker Village collaborative program should include a cover letter explaining their interest in that program.

Portfolio

The portfolio submittal should represent previous creative work and/or research. A portfolio of creative work should include twenty to thirty color images of art, architecture, and / or design work.

A physical portfolio, slides, a digital portfolio or a web site portfolio will all be accepted. Please note that CD or DVD digital portfolios must not require installation of software. The Department of Art, Architecture and Art History is not responsible for reviewing materials that are not readily accessible.

To submit a web site portfolio, e-mail the URL address to the Director of Graduate Programs at jcrossman@art.umass.edu

Return of Portfolio:

Be sure to include a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) if you wish to have your portfolio returned. Do not send checks, international coupons, etc.; we cannot accommodate requests for COD. We can only accept the SASE. The Department of Art is not responsible for portfolios left beyond six months.
