Major Requirements

Anthropology majors must complete a minimum of 36 hours, 30 of which must be at the 200-level or higher. 

General Requirements for the Major:

  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of C or (2.0) in anthropology courses
  • Major Courses may not be taken Pass/Fail
  • A minimum of 15 credit hours in the major must be taken in the department


Courses & Other Requirements:

  • Only one of the following two courses may be used for credit toward the major: ANTHRO 104 - Culture, Society and People, or ANTHRO 106 - Culture through Film
  • ANTHRO 281 - Research Methods (Another statistics course may substitute for ANTHRO 281 with the undergraduate advisor’s approval)
  • ANTHRO 364 - Problems in Anthropology is the Junior Year Writing (JYW) Requirement
  • One course at the 300-level from at least three of the following four anthropological areas: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology
  • One course with an Integrated Experience designation (IE) 
           ex. Global Bodies 494BI
  • Fulfill a “hands-on,” or “doing” requirement
