Action: Support Campaign UMass

        Give a Gift.
        Enhance Image.
        Advocate Full Funding.

Deadline: None
Date: February 2000
Support Campaign UMass

Background: Ambassadors advocate for UMass and enhance our image year-round. Build on the basics with a gift to Campaign UMass.

  • Give a Gift. Ambassadors lead the pack with your generous support to UMass! Last year 33% of all Ambassadors gave a total of $147,551 to UMass. In 1999 only 17% of the alumni list gave to the University. Foundations, corporations and other funding sources look at individual giving rates to assess an institution's strengths. Your financial support leverages investment from other sources.

Each gift counts. The life-time giving of Ambassadors totals over two million dollars, yet most of Ambassadors' gifts are under $500. Small contributions add up and support research, learning and teaching. Enhance your advocacy by giving to the school, college, or program of your choice.

For questions regarding a gift of stocks, securities, or to make a donation by credit card, call the Development Office at (413) 545-2741.

  • Enhance Image. Last year Ambassadors distributed over 1,000 copies of Points of Pride in 300 locations across the state and nation. If you would like to share copies of the Points of Pride with others, please contact Cheryl L. Dukes at cdukes@urd.umass.edu or call 800-772-6155 and copies will be sent to you.

  • Advocate. Throughout the year, the Ambassadors Network notifies you of advocacy opportunities. Participate! Complete each Ambassadors Action, and let us know when you do. Sign up now for our current initiatives -- see below for details.

Many of you have already committed to spring advocacy activities. If you haven't already told us what you can do to build a stronger UMass, here's your chance. We're counting on you.

Tell Us What You Choose to Do

Advance planning lets us deploy our volunteers most effectively. These are the Ambassadors Network’s initiatives for FY 2001. Tell us which of the following you plan to do:

  • Host a candidates' coffee this election year.Massachusetts’ state legislative elections are scheduled for November 2000. Make UMass an election issue in your district this year. Invite all the candidates to meet UMass alumni, parents and friends from your area at a low-key, social event. We will help you produce a simple, successful coffee in your home or another location such as a library or VFW hall.

  • Visit your Representative & Senator this spring. You are the reason that UMass will become a priority for your legislators. We need all Massachusetts Ambassadors to visit their legislators during budget advocacy season. Many Ambassadors made these visits last year. These experienced advocates and the Advocacy Programs staff will help you make your visit a success.

Sign up now for any or all of these important activities. You will receive a detailed resource packet and personal contact from UMass staff to support your efforts. Feel free to call or email with questions or comments.
