Background On June 7, 2000 Rachelle Cohen's column, "When pork comes back to haunt" appeared in the Boston Herald. In her column, she equated the $1 million earmark for reference materials in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library as pork. A media alert was sent to over 100 Ambassadors via email. Nine Ambassadors reported sending letters to the Herald. Six of the letters were published. The success of this action was reported in the June 30, 2000 edition of the Campus Chronicle, "Ambassadors rebut Herald columnist's charge of library 'pork'." Many thanks to the Ambassadors who responded to the media action, and who gave feedback and suggestions. As you can see, each action taken on behalf of the University has a broader impact than any single individual may realize. Your advocacy does make a difference in building a stronger UMass. Thank you for your continued support for the University of Massachusetts. UMass pride is growing and it shows! |
