UMass Amherst Advocates Are Building a Stronger UMass

Join other UMass advocates taking volunteer action on behalf of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

An advocate is...

Anyone who supports or takes action on behalf of UMass Amherst.

What's the message?

UMass Amherst is a good investment.

Amherst Chancellor John V. Lombardi noted to faculty, "my job and your job, I hope, is to persuade all of our constitutents...that this [UMass Amherst] is the best place to invest money.

...And this ought to be easy for this place because it is already performing at a high level. It's already doing great teaching and research. It's already doing terrific stuff, and a small investment on the scale of this state would make a heck of a difference in the continued quality and the return on that investment to the state."

The proof is in the pudding...

UMass Amherst needs you to show and tell how this is the best place to invest money. The University is in our communities developing and supporting the health, wealth, and wisdom of the Commonwealth and the nation.

What can you do?

Be informed. Sign up for the UMass Amherst Advocacy Update, a weekly electronic newsletter highlighting the issues of importance and items to act upon.

To subscribe, send a message to: Cheryl L. Dukes with "subscribe" as the subject. Please include your name and postal mailing address in the body of the message.

Think creatively. We must challenge our assumptions, and wonder what would happen if we did...? To affect a changing climate, we must think and behave differently.

Ask for help. Have an idea, but you don't know where to begin? Advocates have expertise in many different areas, and are willing to share. Advocacy Programs staff will assist in fine-tuning, give feedback, or provide support to you in your efforts.

Share your strengths. Identify your areas of expertise. You are an important resource who can help others advocate for UMass Amherst.

Act. Your actions carry weight and are compounded by the actions of other advocates.

Remember. Your advocacy is important. You make UMass Amherst matter.

Advocacy Programs is building a stronger UMass.

Please join us.
