Dynamite, Whiskey & Wood: Log Drives on the Connecticut River 1870-1915
Dynamite, Whiskey & Wood: Log Drives on the Connecticut River 1870-1915

The longest log drives in America were on the Connecticut River in New England. From 1870 until 1915 long log drives were conducted on many waterways in America to harvest wood to build cities. This program looks at the culture and hardships endured by the log drivers during this period of time. Artifacts from the log drive era are found on the riverbank and also underwater on the riverbed. Ed Klekowski takes us to a time and place most of us have never heard about to discover the wild and rough lives of early American lumbermen.
