The Massachusetts Agricultural Experiment Station is the principal agricultural research unit at the University. The experiment station supports the scientific research of nearly 100 faculty members located within the College of Natural Resources and the Environment. While it is supported in part by a federal appropriation, the primary sources of revenue for the experiment station’s activities are competitive research grants from federal, state and private sources.

UMass Extension provides outreach to the agricultural community through its Agriculture and Landscape Program. The focus of the program is to work in partnership with individual agricultural businesses and industries through teams organized in the following areas: Cranberry, Crops, Dairy & Livestock, Floriculture, Fruit, Integrated Pest Management, Landscape, Nursery and Urban Forestry, Pesticide Education and Analysis, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Turf, and Vegetable.

Stockbridge School of Agriculture

The Stockbridge School of Agriculture is a two-year program leading to the Associates Degree. The program offers majors in six different areas: Arboriculture and Park Management, Equine Industries, Fruit and Vegetable Crops, Horticulture, Landscape Contracting, and Turfgrass Management. The Stockbridge School is administered through the College of Natural Resources and the Environment.

College of Natural Resources and the Environment

The College of Natural Resources and the Environment offers four year degree programs through the following departments: Entomology, Food Science, Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, Microbiology, Natural Resources Conservation, Plant and Soil Sciences, Resource Economics, and Veterinary and Animal Sciences. In addition, the faculty of the college is the engine that drives the research of the Massachusetts Agricultural Experiment Station, the core of teaching expertise for the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, and a partner in the outreach activities of Umass Extension.
