The proposed additional Campus Shuttle bus would provide 15 minute
service around campus in both directions all day during the academic
year. Presently, the system provides 15 minute service in one
direction, and 22 minute service in the other depending on the
time of day.
To provide 15 minute service during the entire year the PTAB recommends
the above scenario, plus two buses during the summer months. The
summer service should have one bus going in opposite direction
every ½ hour or both buses traveling in the same direction
every 15 minutes. To maximize efficiency, summer buses could also
bypass the Orchard Hill area as few dormitories are occupied.
The cost of the summer addition and intersession would be approximately
$60,000 for two buses operating between the hours of 6:30am and
6:30pm. The cost of summer service plus the additional bus during
the year would be approximately $90,000/year.
If the addition of a faculty/staff shuttle was selected, this
service could be established as to provide service from peripheral
parking lots to mains parts of campus. The shuttle could operate
more frequently than a bus that circled the whole campus, and
possible cheaper utilizing a smaller vehicle. A 15 passenger or
smaller size vehicle would be recommended so no CDL drivers would
be used. An approximate cost of a faculty/staff shuttle would
be $186,048 for 12 hours service during the academic year, and
$308,448 for an entire year (summer and intersession included).
After discussion regarding the financial analysis of several option,
the following was chosen by the PTAB:
| Additional Campus Shuttle Bus | $ 30,500 |
| Campus Shuttle during Summer & Intersession | $ 60,000 |
| ----------- | |
| Total | $ 90,500 |
