OLD DIRT AND NEW DIRT - CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON CAMPUS

The campus begins its FY05-FY09 capital construction plan which totals over $540 million in project activity, the largest ever since the early 1970’s. Over the next five years the campus will invest in new facilities, renovate and repair existing facilities, complete upgrades for code compliance and implement several infrastructure repairs and upgrades.

BELOW: Tearing Down...to make way for the new Integrated Science Building: a new model for science teaching and research focused on the integration of the life, chemical and physical sciences. 145,000 gross square feet of new space will include state of the art labs, auditoria, classrooms, and offices.

BELOW: Renovate...Skinner Hall to accommodate the increasing enrollment in the School of Nursing. The complete renovation, including a small addition, will result in a 50,000-square-foot facility that will provide instructional facilities, clinical nursing laboratories and exam rooms, a distance learning classroom, general classrooms, a computer lab, clinical seminar/conference rooms, faculty and administrative offices, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. This renovation will be the first time the University has vacated and modernized a significant campus building in its entirety.

The capital construction plan also includes new Undergraduate Student Housing providing 864 beds in apartment-style living with four bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and two bathrooms in each apartment and the New Art Building which will consolidate the two-dimensional and three-dimensional design programs of the Department of Art and Art History in a new 45,000 sq.ft building. In addition, the campus will implement many renovation, repair and infrastructure projects over the next four years including Berkshire Dining Common Renovations, Campus Center Repairs, Campus Fire Alarm Upgrades, University Drive Road Improvements, Bartlett Façade Repair, Southwest Concourse Replacement, Engineering Research Center Renovations, Central Campus Steam and Electrical Infrastructure Improvements, Fire Alarm Upgrades in Various Campus Builidngs, Herter Ventilation Improvements, GRC Façade Repairs, Library Deck and Interior Repairs, Library Learning Commons, and Science Facility Improvements.
