ABOUT WISTARIAHURST MUSEUM (wistariahurst.org)
Wistariahurst is the former home of two generations of the Skinner family, manufacturers of nationally renowned silks and satins, and prominent residents of Holyoke. The grand estate and gardens have been a focal point in the Holyoke landscape since 1874. In 1959, Katharine Skinner Kilborne, the youngest daughter of William and Sarah Skinner, and her heirs donated Wistariahurst to the City of Holyoke to be used for cultural and educational purposes.
Today, Wistariahurst Museum provides a variety of programs, cultural events, and history projects aimed at engaging and educating residents and visitors with our history, our collection, and our community. Our facilities include a holyoke exhibition space, art gallery, performance space, house museum, historic gardens, and a gift shop.
The Wistariahurst Communications Intern will work with the Museum Director to learn about messaging, marketing and promotions for a cultural institution. Our programs and opportunities include art show openings, concerts, dance and theater performance, community events and lecture.
The intern will receive training in the following areas:
- Writing and disseminating press releases and media alerts
- Best practices in social media
- Grassroots marketing (flyers and word of mouth!)
- E-mail marketing
- Targeted communications
We are looking for candidates with strong written and verbal skills who are comfortable interacting with the partners and the public.
