Thanks to Assets for Artists, AES recently completed a tour of our popular Artist in Business trainings throughout southern New England. For the second year in a row, the tour included training stops in Western Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, with a second Connecticut location newly added this year.
Taught by AES Director Dee Boyle-Clapp, the training teaches best practices in business planning and arts marketing for independent artists. Artists are introduced to information and processes that support their business, including:
- understanding their place in the arts eco-system,
- reaching their target market,
- pricing their work,
- recognizing the purpose of key financial records and financial software,
- and identifying goals and priorities to make the most impact in their limited time.
One artist who participated in the training wrote: "Just want to let you know how terrific the Assets for Artists workshop was yesterday. I've gone to a lot of one-day workshops and this, by far, is one of the best I've ever attended. It was professional (not always the case with artist workshops), well organized, extremely well planned and run, and the information that I've taken away is invaluable for me as an artist trying to run a small business."
Special thanks to Assets for Artists! Thanks also to all the artists who participated, and worked to learn new skills to take their businesses to the next level. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
