How to Register

Regardless of the type of courses that you're taking, if you have any questions or if you have any difficulty registering please contact us at aes@acad.umass.edu or call us at 413-545-2360 and we will be glad to help you.

Campus Students and Returning Non-Degree Students
If you are an on-campus student, or a student who has previously enrolled in online credited courses, log in to SPIRE and request an enrollment appointment. Once this is done, log in again during your enrollment appointment and search for the course in SPIRE to register. You will not be able to register for courses until registration opens. To see when registration opens for your intended semester, see the Academic Calendar for on-campus courses.

UWW Students and Online Degree

Our degree is offered through UMass University Without Walls. You will not be able to register for courses until registration opens. To see when registration opens for your intended semester, see the UWW Academic Calendar for online courses.

New Non-Degree Students
If you are enrolling in credited online courses for the first time, you will need to set up a SPIRE account, request an enrollment appointment, and self-register. To request a SPIRE account, complete the enrollment application. You will be sent credentials within two business days to allow you to log in to SPIRE.

Once you are able to log in, you can request an enrollment window that will allow you a certain range of time in which you can self-enroll in specific courses. You can find a tutorial for this process at the UWW site.

Non-Credit Students
If you intend to take the course online for no college credit, fill out this form. You will need to know the following information about the course that you intend to take:

  • Class Subject and Course Number (i.e., LLAMS 1 for Introduction to Arts Management);
  • Class Title (the actual name of the course, such as Introduction to Arts Management);
  • Class Number (the five-digit number unique to each course every semester).

If this is your first time registering for non-credit courses, leave the "NetID/SPIRE ID" field blank, and the UWW Registrar will contact you to verify your identity in order to register you. Once this is done you will be given a SPIRE ID number which you can use for registration in the future.
