Welcome to the Arts Extension Service!

Bringing you the best education possible has been the mission of the Arts Extension Service (AES) since its founding. Whether you are new to the university, coming back to complete your degree, or are an arts professional looking to expand your skills, we are here for you.  Classes are kept small and utilize a case study, often your own organization or one that you volunteer for, so you can immediately apply your learning and support your institution.

AES faculty members are seasoned professionals, each with over twenty years of arts management and nonprofit experience.  Our goals are simple: to bring scholarship to the field of arts management, to impart all we know – based on more than thirty years of experience, to learn from you and add your experiences back to the research to keep the education circle vibrant and growing, and to continually add new programs and offerings to keep you abreast of the ever-changing arts management landscape.

Our work in the field ensures that we are aware of trends and are able to prepare materials that arts managers and students need before anyone else does!  Our early research on the Creative Economy was completed, and new publications and training programs were created, before arts managers and others were ready to embrace this concept and required information to spark their own communities.  In fact, we lead the way in online learning, and were the first in the nation to offer online professional development workshops, and were an early leader in offering full-semester online courses in arts management.  We continue that tradition by offering the only online bachelor’s degree in the United States through the ground-breaking University Without Walls program. This program offers academic credit for life and work experience, welcomes transfer credits, and has advisors to work with you to ensure that you meet your goals. Together, our cutting edge research, scholarship, and creation of new programs ensure that you will be taught the latest information, and will be on the forefront of trends.

The Arts Extension Service faculty and staff want you to succeed and offer a variety of programs to start you off – and keep you headed in the direction that is right for you.  Choose from our many offerings:
