The Arts Extension Service (AES) is a program of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and a national arts service organization serving the arts and humanities through education, research, publications and consulting. AES offers a Certificate in Arts Management, arts management classes on campus and online, and the Semester @ Mount Ida Internship Program (with Film Studies). AES spearheads the Arts Entrepreneurship Initiative, which serves UMass students as well as the region’s artists and other creative businesses through internships, trainings, and workshops.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: In this exciting internship opportunity with the Arts Entrepreneurship Initiative at the Arts Extension Service, two student interns will assist staff to conceive and produce arts and humanities events on campus. Through hands on experience and with supervisory support, student interns will learn methods to strengthen communities and build leadership skills through the arts. Interns will be involved in a number of events throughout the 2019/2020 academic year, which may include:
- A series of workshops for students, faculty, and staff to develop leadership skills through creative activities (February 2020).
- A new program series highlighting student artists and participatory art at the Franklin Permaculture Garden and UMass Farmer’s Markets (April 2020).
- (Pending funding) The symposium Creative Women Leading Climate Action (program planning spring 2020).
By collaborating with AES and Sustainability staff, interns will learn how to promote and produce educational and participatory workshops, develop a new program series based on a community partner’s mission and values, curate a mixed bill performance, and foster partnerships between diverse constituent groups.
Opportunity for credit in addition to stipend.
