General information for Departments
Undergraduate Advising,
Commonwealth College, and Career Services co-sponsor the annual Major Fair.
We strive to:
Connect Students with information regarding the many academic opportunities
at UMass Amherst
Provide a convenient, centralized opportunity for students to explore
various major options in one location
Have a representative from every academic department participate
at the fair.
According to the research, students with identified majors are more
likely to have higher retention and graduation rates. This fair is one
avenue that can positively affect our recruitment and retention rates.
Basic Information and Suggestions for Departments
Each participating department is provided with an assigned table
with chairs
Departments staff their tables with faculty, staff and student representatives
who will be able to answer questions about their major.
Historical data has determined that undergraduates appreciate having
"role model students" available to talk about prospective majors.
Students come to the fair hoping to acquire resource materials from
your department.
Students are interested in seeing examples of jobs and careers where
alumni are working.
It is often handy to have a UMass Guide to Undergraduate Programs
available for reference.
Students are attracted to eye catching displays, teaching tools,
program visuals, giveaway items etc.
