Five Colleges Interchange
Can’t decide between a large university and a small liberal arts college. How about both?
UMass Amherst and its neighbors (Smith, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, and Hampshire Colleges) share a unique relationship called the Five College Interchange. This allows students (like you) from UMass Amherst to take courses for credit at any of the other four colleges without paying additional tuition or fees. It’s an incredible way to broaden your choices of courses and faculty and to meet a wide range of students. Plus, if you have always wanted to experience life at a women’s college, this is your chance (even if you’re not a woman). You will also encounter students from the other four colleges in your classes at UMass Amherst, enriching your experience even when you don’t leave campus.
The perks don’t end there. You may borrow from all five libraries, eat meals at other campuses, and participate in their academic and cultural programming. The five colleges even provide free bus service so that you can get from one campus to the other with ease.
