Making College Life Just a Little Easier for Everyone


Another advantage of a big school like UMass Amherst is the amazing array of support services they can offer students. No matter what you're going through or what you need, there are people and programs to help.

The Office of Programs and Services for ALANA (Asian, Latino(a), African and Native American) Students:
The The Office of Programs and Services for ALANA (Asian, Latino(a), African and Native American) Students is an umbrella office, serving as a support agency for students of color at UMass Amherst. Students of color will also find support at the offices below:

The Committee for the Collegiate Education of Black and other Minority Students (CCEBMS)

The Bilingual Collegiate Program (BCP)

United Asia Learning Resource Center (UALRC)

Native American Student Support Program (NASSP)

At Counseling and Assessment Services (CAS) professional psychologists, career development counselors, psychotherapists, and supervised advanced graduate students provide a range of clinical and related services to all UMass Amherst students.

The Dean of Students Office (DOS) is a key place to go if you run into some sort of trouble at UMass Amherst. They are there to help you negotiate the bureaucracy of the campus (a very important skill to master) and to help you resolve university-related problems. The Dean of Students and the staff in the office can answer your questions, advocate on your behalf, or point you and your family in the right direction to get problems solved.

The staff at Disability Services provides assistance to students with learning or physical disabilities. You should start working with the Disabilities Office as soon as you begin the UMass Amherst application process. Check out the Disability Resources page for more.

Everywomen's Center is a multicultural center that serves the very diverse cultural and linguistic populations at UMass Amherst. Their programs include information and referral on a variety of issues and concerns; 24-hour rape crisis service; counseling; support groups; training and community organization on issues of violence against women; as well as advocacy and cultural, educational, and social programs for women of color.

International Programs Office: International students receive extensive assistance with all aspects of college life through the International Programs Office.

Office of Jewish Affairs: This office aims to foster a safe and welcoming campus environment for Jewish students, staff, and faculty, characterized by mutual respect, and free of harassment or discrimination of any kind.

The Ombuds Office helps to make sure that everyone on campus gets treated fairly. They assist in resolving conflicts with instructors or campus offices, and they also serve as advocates, making recommendations for changes in UMass Amherst’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

The Psychological Services Center is part of the UMass Amherst Psychology department. The center offers a full range of assessment and psychotherapy services for adults, children and adolescents, and families, without age or residence restrictions, and with fee based on ability to pay. Both short and long term treatment are available. Counselors at the center are doctoral students in the Clinical Psychology Program, who receive intensive supervision by program faculty.

The Stonewall Center is UMass Amherst’s resource center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender students, faculty, and staff.

The Veterans Affairs Office assists Veterans, Guardsmen, and Reservists at UMass Amherst.
