Student Health Coverage
Student Health Insurance Plan
Massachusetts requires full-time college students to have primary health care insurance. Students taking 5 or more credits are automatically enrolled in the school-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP); charges will appear on the semester’s tuition bill. U.S. students who already have qualifying insurance coverage may waive SHIP coverage; the SHIP is mandatory for international students.
Family Coverage
The available SHIP family plan covers a student’s spouse or same-sex domestic partner and dependent children under 19. Call UHS Patient Services, 577-5192, for information and to enroll.
Student Health Fee
The Student Health Fee is not insurance. It works together with your primary insurance, providing access to UHS and absorbing many costs not covered by your primary insurance plan. The fee is automatically added to a full-time student's semester tuition bill and cannot be waived.
