Mental Health
An essential part of University Health Services is Mental Health Services. They provide services to individuals, couples, children, and families enrolled in the various Health Services plans.
Mental Health Services has a professional staff of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, advanced practice nurses, and psychology and social work interns. The staff is multicultural and sensitive to helping people with a variety of needs, backgrounds and life-styles. They represent various interests and skills, and whenever possible will be matched to a client’s interests and needs.
Mental Health Services focuses on brief interventions. Their services include:
· 24-hour and year-round emergency service
· The Behavioral Medicine Clinic
· The Eating Disorders Clinic
· Individual therapy
· Group therapy
· Couples and family therapy
· Medication for emotional problems
· Consultation and education service
The Mental Health Services website has more details on these programs, and provides links to extensive self-help resources.
Other Support
UMass has counseling and mental health resources outside of UHS, which may also provide the help you need. For lists and links to those, go to the Student Resources section.
