Getting Involved

Mission Improv cast members

UMass Amherst offers a broad range of opportunities to get involved in the arts, no matter your experience or your interest. Audition for a play, join a vocal ensemble, put up an exhibit of your work, or get involved behind the scenes. For an overview and some important links, go to the Arts on Campus page on the UMass Amherst website.

Even if you’re not majoring in the arts, you can participate in arts performances and ensembles at UMass Amherst through the various departments. Check out their websites to learn more: Music, Dance, and Theater.

Student Groups (RSOs)

The Registered Students Organizations on campus offer a variety of arts groups, covering dance, music, theater, and fine art. The RSO website will get you connected. If you can’t find opportunities for the kinds of performance or expression that you crave, you can start your own organization as well.

Five Colleges

As you probably know by now, you’re not limited to student groups at UMass Amherst. You can also get involved with organizations at Amherst, Hampshire, Smith or Mount Holyoke College. The Five Colleges website provides a handy list, so you can start thinking about your options now.
