Payment Plan

Which sounds easier: Paying your tuition bill in one large lump sum or in smaller monthly payments? If you said “in smaller monthly payments,” then UMass Amherst has a payment option for you.

Students may participate in an installment payment plan through Tuition Management Systems (TMS) and the UMass Amherst Bursar's Office.

You can budget all or part of your tuition, fees, and room-and-board expenses into monthly payments. These smaller payments are often easier on your household budget, you can save money by reducing the amount you need to borrow, and you can keep funds longer in interest-bearing accounts.

This isn’t a loan program and there is no interest or finance charges added if you choose to pay your bill this way. However, there is a small enrollment fee for this program.

There is a deadline for enrolling in the program (for fall enrollment, the deadline is in early August), so be sure to investigate this option early.

To speak with education payment counselors call 1-888-216-4258. New families should select option #1, current families (including former AMS families) should select option #2. TMS is available to enroll students and families, provide tuition payment counseling and answer account questions from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM weekdays and 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays (EST).

You can also visit the TMS web site for additional information.

What’s the Bursar’s Office?

The Bursar's Office is in charge of billing and collections for all graduate and undergraduate students at UMass Amherst. If you enroll at UMass Amherst you will receive your bills for tuition, room and board, and all mandatory fees from the Bursar’s Office. The fall payment due date is usually the beginning of August and the spring payment due date is usually the beginning of January. If you opt for the TMS payment plan, your payments will be spread throughout the semester.
