Guidance Counselors

We’ve designed this website to provide high school guidance counselors with a central location to find the information they need to help students apply for admission to UMass Amherst. This site should keep you up-to-date and prepared for the busy application season. Please contact us if there is information you’d like to see on this website or topics you think we should cover in the newsletter. Your input is essential.

Application Essentials

Paper Application

For a complete paper application UMass Amherst must receive:

  • The completed application
  • The application fee in a check or money order made payable to the University of Massachusetts. Students should indicate their name and U.S. social security number on their payment.
  • The student’s official transcript
  • The first set of senior grades
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • Letter of recommendation
  • The most recent High School Profile

It is most helpful to receive all of the application materials at once. If that is not possible, counselors should send the documents that they customarily provide and assist students with reminders to send their portions of the application as soon as possible.

Online Application

When students use UMass Amherst’s online application or the Common Application counselors must still send the customary documents:

  • The student’s official transcript
  • The first set of senior grades
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • Letter of recommendation
  • The most recent High School Profile

Application Fees

Massachusetts Residents: $40
Out-of-State Residents: $50
International: $60

When submitting the application fee, students should indicate name and U.S. social security number on the check or money order, made payable to the University of
Massachusetts. Do not send cash.

The application fee is nonrefundable.

Required Tests

All freshman and first year transfer applicants must submit official SAT or ACT scores, unless they graduated from high school more than five years ago.

Official SAT/ACT scores must be sent to the UMass Amherst from the Educational Testing Service if they are not included with the transcript.

The UMass Amherst College Board (CEEB) number is 3917.
