International Students
UMass Amherst is a surprisingly international place. With students from over 70 countries worldwide (and all 50 of the United States), you’ll feel comfortable no matter how far you’ve traveled.
Prospective Freshmen (First Semester and Stockbridge Students):
You are considered an international student if you are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Admission is competitive and applicants are expected to have above-average secondary/high school records. You must submit Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT-I) or American College Testing (ACT) scores, as well as TOEFL or SAT-II ELPT scores if you are a student for whom English is a second language. Financial documentation is also required.
Transfer Students:
Priority in transfer admission will be given to international applicants who have above-average academic records and who have the prerequisite coursework for their chosen academic major. Students for whom English is a second language must also submit TOEFL or SAT-II ELPT scores.
