Get an Application

UMass Amherst gives you several ways to get an application, from snail mail to applying online.

Once you have chosen the application you want to use, read the instructions carefully. Please indicate both a first and second choice for your academic major.

Application Options


The following application methods can be used for FRESHMAN or TRANSFER applications to any of UMass Amherst’s undergraduate four-year bachelor’s degree programs or to the two-year associate’s degree programs in the Stockbridge School.

  1. Apply online using the Common Application.

    Please note that UMass Amherst is an “All-in-One” school, which means you also must submit the UMass Amherst Supplement. Your application will be considered only when both documents have been submitted.

  2. Apply online using UMass Amherst's application.

    If you use this option, please mail us your resume, including a list of your high school activities. Be sure to include your full name and date of birth on your resume.

  3. Apply by mail by downloading and completing the Common Application and UMass Amherst Common Application Supplement.

    It is very important that you mail these two documents together.

  4. Apply by mail by downloading and completing the UMass Amherst application.

    If you use this option, please include your resume, including a list of your high school activities. Be sure to include your full name and date of birth on the resume.

    Please Note: To print applications you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. To download a free version, click here.

International students: Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents must submit additional documentation.

You cannot use the application options above if you fall into one of the following categories:

Re-entering Student

If you were previously enrolled at UMass Amherst, contact the Registrar's Office for a readmission application: 413-545-0555. Students requesting readmission to Stockbridge must contact the Stockbridge School for a readmission application: 413-545-2222.

Post-Graduate Second Bachelor’s Degree Student

If you plan to earn a post-graduate second bachelor’s degree, contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office for information and a Post-Graduate Second Bachelor's Degree application: 413-545-0222.

University Without Walls

Contact the University Without Walls Office for more information and an application: 413-545-0844.

Graduate Student

If you are interested in obtaining an advanced degree, contact the Graduate School Admissions Office for information and an application: 413-545-0721.
