Stockbridge School
The Stockbridge School is one of the programs that makes UMass Amherst stand out among public universities.
As they say at Stockbridge, it’s the small school with big opportunities. You’ll have all the advantages of being part of the larger UMass Amherst community, with its broad range of activities—clubs, organizations, recreation, entertainment, and residential life—but you’ll also have the benefit of a small, tightly-knit cohort. Stockbridge students are a diverse group (about one-third of the students are non-traditional) and they bring with them a wealth of work experience and a passion for their chosen field.
The Stockbridge School offers 2-year associate degree programs in six majors:
· Arboriculture and Community Forest Management
· Equine Industries
· Horticulture (with four concentrations: Floriculture Crop Production, General Horticulture, Management of Woody Plants, and Retail Floral Design)
· Fruit and Vegetable Crops
· Landscape Contracting
· Turfgrass Management
Credits from the Stockbridge degree are transferable into a bachelor’s degree and students with a minimum 2.50 GPA are automatically accepted as transfer students to other programs at UMass Amherst. Graduates transfer into departments primarily within the College of Natural Resources and the Environment: Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, Plant, Soil, and Insect Sciences, Urban Forestry and Veterinary & Animal Sciences.
The Stockbridge School also provides extensive career preparation. Students are required to complete an internship within their major, and they graduate with the academic foundation and work experience necessary to be a success. As a result, graduates are hot properties within the food crops, equine, and green industries and they receive numerous job offers.
