What are minors and certificates, and why would I want one?
Minors and certificates are not required, but are ideal ways to explore and attain some competence in a second field. You might choose one topically connected to your major (a major in Spanish and a certificate in Latin American Studies), or you may choose a secondary field that’s quite different from your primary area but will give you a specific skill (a major in philosophy and a minor in cartography). Adding a minor or certificate is a great way to round out your education—it’s what a liberal arts degree is all about.
