International Application Process

As an international student, you have very particular requirements for the Admission process. Read these carefully, and contact the Undergraduate Admissions office with any questions (413-545-0222).

Applications:

Print an International Student Application or use the Common Application.

Regardless of the application used, you will also need to print, complete, and mail an
International Student Sponsor Statement

Deadlines:

Freshman international applications, with all supporting materials described below, must be received by January 15.

Transfer applications and supporting materials must be received by April 15.

As an international student, you may apply for fall admission only. Only students currently enrolled in a U.S. college and who have completed non-ESL English/writing coursework may apply for January admission. (That deadline is October 1.)

It is your responsibility to ensure that the application, fee, scores, transcripts, sponsor statement, bank statement, and other documents are received before the application deadline. If your application is incomplete by the application deadline, it will be withdrawn from consideration.

Application Requirements:

The following materials are required and must be received by the application deadline:

  • International Student Application for Undergraduate Admission

  • $60.00 (U.S.) application fee, made payable to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which must accompany the International Student Application for Undergraduate Admission (this fee cannot be waived)

  • Essay

  • TOEFL score report. Go to English Language Proficiency for details

  • SAT-I or ACT score report: This is required of freshman applicants and transfers with less than one year of college coursework

  • Official copy of secondary/high school record, indicating grades earned

  • Official copies of examination results (if applicable), showing grades

  • Transfer applicants only: Official copies of all college/university coursework, indicating grades earned

  • Transfer applicants only: If currently enrolled, a list of courses in progress

    IMPORTANT: In order to ensure an accurate evaluation of transfer credit, applicants must provide syllabi for college coursework, preferably at the time of application.

  • Official explanation of grading system

  • Certified translations of any non-English transcripts, certificates, diplomas, and other documents submitted

  • Completed Sponsor Statement Form

  • Bank statement

Note about documents: All documents submitted with the application become the property of the Undergraduate Admissions Office and cannot be released to the student. Attested or notarized copies of original foreign transcripts are permitted for the admission decision; however, if admitted, the student must present the original document upon request.
