Advanced Standing

What if I earned a some college credits through my local college or Advanced Placement credits? Does that make me a transfer student?

Congratulations, you’ve got a leg up on your college career. This means you will be admitted as a freshman with advanced standing.

Graduating high school seniors (regardless of the number of college credits taken while in high school) or high school graduates/GED recipients who have attempted fewer than 12 college credits make up the majority of UMass Amherst’s freshman applicants.

FYI: AP and other college credits may apply to graduation requirements, but they do not count toward your residence requirements (that is, up to 75 transfer credits can apply to graduation requirements; 45 residence credits must be earned through UMass Amherst; 60 credits if graduating with honors).
