UMass Amherst has plenty of resources to help you adjust to college, succeed here, and achieve your goals, no matter what types of assistance you need. That’s one of the many advantages of being at a larger school. Knowledgeable and caring support personnel provide assistive technology, academic counseling, career counseling, and help with study and writing skills, as well as special services for student athletes, international students, and non-traditional learners.

Assistive Technologies Center (ATC)
The ATC is available to any student with an ADA-defined disability who requires assistance with services such as retrieval of materials from the stacks, photocopying, large print user guides, scanning assistance, screen readers, text enhancements, and text enlargers. They offer book readers, scanners, computers with speech synthesizers, text recognition software, and much more.

Disability Services
The staff at Disability Services provides assistance to students with learning or physical disabilities. You should start working with the Disabilities Office as soon as you begin the UMass Amherst application process.
English as a Second Language
This program helps assure the academic success of UMass Amherst students who are not native English speakers.
Learning Resource Center
Tutoring, workshops on learning skills, supplemental instruction, assistance with research and taking notes— the Learning Resource Center will help you hone those necessary academic skills.
International Programs Office
International students receive extensive assistance with all aspects of college life through the International Programs Office.

Writing Center
Once you get to UMass Amherst and start writing papers, you’ll be glad the Writing Center exists. Their tutors provide free one-on-one assistance and can work with you at any stage of the writing process and on a wide range of genres.
