PROFILE

Dr. Cheevers is a National Board Certified seventh and eighth grade English/language arts teacher at JFK Middle School in Northampton, Massachusetts. She also teaches in the Department of Education at the University of UMASS, Amherst.
She has a bachelor of arts in English, a masterÉs degree in reading and writing education, and a doctorate in language, literacy and culture from the University of UMASS. She has presented workshops on writing, language, literacy, and assessment locally and nationally, including several presentations to the National Council of Teachers of English. She currently consults with several local school systems, providing general guidance and teacher training in several areas of literacy education, especially those areas that require cross content writing and Massachusetts Framework applications. With over twenty years of classroom teaching experience, Nancy enjoys blending secondary classroom expertise with adult learning.
