Examples from the Classroom

From a systemic functional linguistic perspective, context of culture and situation are very important factors in how we produce texts. For the analysis of each student text, the teachers in the SFL course gathered several layers of contextual information. You will find the following types of data in text, image and movie format: Context, Curriculum Frameworks, Enduring Understandings, Curricular unit and program; Analysis of two texts from a SFL perspective (i.e. field, tenor, mode and genre), recommendations by the teacher on how to move the student forward, and reflections on how the unit went. Also, short videos and transcripts provide multimodal details about the process.
