Session 2 (Sept 17)
The session focused on discussing how to find concrete
evidence of discourses. Different approaches to discourse
were discussed. Jerri talked on the presentation Theresa,
Meg, and herself did this year at the Critical Discourse
analysis conference. Some discussion on the readings was
also present, but time was scarce to go into detail.
Included here is a follow up e-mail Jerri sent to Andres
mentioning an article that provides a concrete example of
how one can track down and trace a discursive formation.

Reading Christie Ch. 1 and 2.
Groups of four people got together for a jigsaw presentation
on Eggins Chapters 2, 3, 4 and Christie
Chapters 1 and 2. Everyone in the class was assigned to
read chapter 1 and 5 from Eggins, and skim the rest, BUT
only one person was responsible to 'fill in' further details
from ONE chapter at a time.
